- Story Text: Spanish oil company Repsol is looking for "mechanisms" to keep operating in Venezuela, its CEO Jose Jon Imaz said in Madrid on Monday (March 31).
U.S. authorities have notified Spanish oil company Repsol that its license to export oil from Venezuela is to be revoked.
Oil companies Maurel et Prom from France and Eni from Italy said during the weekend they had been notified by the U.S. government that their respective authorisations to operate in Venezuela were revoked.
"We are working together with the company to analyse exactly what this measure is about," said Spain’s Foreign minister Jose Manuel Albares.
"We will analyse exactly what impact it has, what we are dealing with. We will use all the dialogue space we have,” he added.
Last week, Trump issued an executive order declaring that any country buying oil or gas from Venezuela will pay a 25% tariff on trades with the United States.
