- Story Text: Buddhist monks in the north Indian town of Sarnath held prayers on Sunday (March 30) for the victims of the Myanmar earthquake.
The monks had gathered from different monasteries to express solidarity and condolence to the victims in Thailand and Myanmar, a Buddhist monk named Shibli said.
The 7.7 magnitude earthquake last Friday (March 28) killed at least 1,700 people in Myanmar, according to state media on Sunday.
In neighbouring Thailand, at least 19 people were killed. A desperate search continued on Monday (March 31) for 76 people believed to be buried under rubble, after an under-construction building in Bangkok collapsed following the quake.
