- Story Text: Nicole Scherzinger’s Broadway debut in "Sunset Blvd." has been a long time in the making.
"I've always prayed that I get to share all of my talents, all of my gifts, and my prayers have been answered so I cannot complain about anything - the exhaustion - because I've never been more fulfilled," said the former Pussycat Doll.
Scherzinger plays the lead role of Norma Desmond, a former movie star haunted by her past. Her co-stars include 2024 Olivier Award winner Tom Francis playing the role of Joe Gillis, 2024 Olivier Award nominee Grace Hodgett Young as Betty Schaefer, and Olivier Award winner and 2024 Olivier nominee David Thaxton as Max Von Mayerling.
Francis said playing opposite Scherzinger has been a joy.
"She's just a powerhouse of an individual and she comes on stage every single night and just machines through that show like I've never seen anybody do a part like that. And so it's just inspiring coming in every single day and getting to play opposite her."
The Broadway revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1991 musical is directed by Jamie Lloyd and has seen resounding success since its opening, after a successful run on London’s West End where it won a record eight Olivier Awards including Best Revival.
Newcomer Grace Hodgett Young said she always had faith in the show.
"I think it's incredible to take a show that's already so well known and just completely flip it on its head and strip it back, get people in that look different to how it's always been done, sing differently to how it's always been done, and also to find someone like Nicole (Scherzinger) who's so perfect for Norma, I just think it’s like, historical what he's done with this show, so I've always had faith in it and I think it's incredible."
In response to overwhelming demand, the producers announced six additional performances which will take place on Tuesday evenings: April 8, April 29, May 6, May 13, May 27, and June 10.
