- Story Text: A view of the Chinese capital Beijing, after U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday (April 9) that the United States would raise the tariff on Chinese imports to 125% from the 104% level that took effect at midnight.
Trump's move further escalates a high-stakes confrontation between the world's two largest economies. The two countries have traded tit-for-tat tariff hikes repeatedly over the past week.
While ramping up the pressure on China, Trump also simultaneously lowered the hefty duties he had just imposed on dozens of other countries to a lower 10% levy for the next 90 days.
Beijing, a city of 22 million people, was one of the world’s ancient capitals and is still home to some of the finest remnants of China’s rich history.
A tour through Beijing will take you from the historic landmarks such as the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace to the high-rises in the central business district, from the hustle and bustle of city life to attractions in the outskirts such as the Great Wall and the newly-developed Gubei Water Town.
