- Story Text:Indian authorities deployed to Myanmar's Mandalay city aided local rescuers in search and rescue operations on Wednesday (April 02) but said there was next to no chance of finding survivors.
Rescuers were seen combing through mounds of rubble and recovering bodies trapped under the ruins of a collapsed building. Rescuers said the heat, combined with it being five days since the quake meant there was next to no chance of finding survivors.
Indian army personnel also set up a mobile medical camp to treat injured victims.
The quake, which struck at lunchtime on Friday, was the strongest to hit the Southeast Asian country in more than a century, toppling ancient pagodas and modern buildings alike.
The death toll from last week's earthquake in Myanmar has risen to 2,886, state television said.
