- Story Text: Bangkok officials on Wednesday (April 2) said the hope of finding survivors amid the rubble of a skyscraper that collapsed after last week's earthquake is getting "slimmer each day".
However, the city's governor Chadchart Sittipunt maintained that the search will continue, citing that Myanmar had earlier in the day found a survivor. "If it can happen there, it can happen here too," said Chadchart during a news conference.
The 30-storey under-construction skyscraper was the only building to completely crumble in the Thai capital, when Friday's (March 28) quake of magnitude 7.7 in neighbouring Myanmar brought it crashing down.
Thailand has ordered safety inspections by owners of about 11,000 private high-rise buildings after the quake. Surveys of 3,375 government buildings nationwide found 34 with severe damage, authorities said on Wednesday.
At least 22 people have been confirmed dead across Thailand, with 72 people still missing as of 4:00 p.m. (0900 GMT), according to official updates. Meanwhile, the death toll in Myanmar has risen to 2,886, state television said.
