- Story Text: Despite a 10% baseline tariff announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday (April 2), Colombia remains competitive within the United States’ market, Colombian Foreign Minister Laura Sarabia said.
Sarabia added that different government ministers were analyzing measures to soften the impact of the tariffs on their industry and to help exporters.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro posted on X criticizing Trump’s decision, saying that he will only raise or lower tariffs in order to retain or create more jobs in his country, but not as a ‘protectionist’ measure.
Colombia’s exports to the United States include oil, coffee, flowers, fruits, coal and among other products.
