- Story Text: South Korean police beefed up security in areas around the Constitutional Court in Seoul on Thursday (April 3), a day before the impeachment ruling for President Yoon Suk Yeol.
The Constitutional Court, which is reviewing Yoon's impeachment over a shock martial law order, said it will announce its decision on whether to remove him from office permanently or reinstate him on Friday (April 4).
The area around the Constitutional Court would be designated as a "special crime prevention zone", Acting Chief of Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, Park Hyun-soo, said.
Yoon was impeached by parliament on December 14 after being accused of violating his constitutional duty by declaring martial law earlier that month with no justifiable grounds. If the court rules to oust him, a new presidential election must be held within 60 days.
