- Story Text: In a joint press conference on Thursday (April 3) in Berlin German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and King Abdullah II of Jordan stressed the need for a political solution for the conflict in Gaza. Scholz said that a return to the ceasefire, the release of all hostages and humanitarian aid for Gaza were urgently needed.
"It is clear to us that a lasting peace that stabilizes the situation in the West Bank as well as Gaza can only be achieved through a political solution," said Scholz.
King Abdullah said the humanitarian crisis in Gaza had reached 'unspeakable levels' and called for immediate action. "The way forward is through a political solution on the basis of the two-state solution. This is how we can guarantee peace and security for Palestinians, Israelis and the entire region," said King Abdullah.
King Abdullah met with German representatives, including German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier, during his trip to Germany which included his participation in the 3rd Global Disability Summit, co-hosted by Germany and Jordan, on Wednesday (April 2).
