  • Story Text: Switzerland's government on Thursday (April 3) described the trade tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump against the country as incomprehensible, but said it did not currently plan retaliatory measures in response.
    “The Federal Council is clearly of the opinion that an escalation is not in Switzerland's interest. It is therefore refraining from taking direct countermeasures for the time being and will examine other solutions,” Swiss President, Karin Keller-Sutter told reporters in Bern.
    The government made its statement after Trump imposed a 31% tariff on imports from Switzerland compared with 20% on goods from the European Union and 10% from Britain.
