- Story Text: The youth wing of India's main opposition Congress party protested on Saturday (April 05) in New Delhi over the United States President Donald Trump's imposition of a 27 percent tariff on Indian imports in the country.
Trump said on Wednesday (April 02) that he would impose a 10% baseline tariff on all imports and higher duties on some of his country's biggest trading partners, in a move that ratchets up a trade war that Trump kicked off on his return to the White House.
The protesters were seen burning Trump's effigy as they held posters with slogans questioning Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'friendship' with the US president.
India said on Thursday (April 03) it was studying the impact of the 27% tariff slapped by the U.S. on its imports and vowed to push for a trade deal this year, signalling a conciliatory tone despite failing to get relief from President Donald Trump's trade policy. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
