- Story Text: President Jawara of Gambia has arrived in Senegal on the start of a three day working visit.
President Jawara, accompanied by his Foreign Minister, Alieu N'Jie and his Minister for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Cessay, were greeted at Dakar airport, the capital of Senegal by the Senegal President, Leopold Sedar Senghor and other leading members of the Senegal government.
President Jawara and President Senghor will discuss cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economics, technology and culture.
When the two Presidents met they issued a joint statement welcoming the installation of a telecommunication network between Gambia and Senegal.
The network is due to begin operation in about seven months.
The statement also added that the construction of the road between the Gambian town of Brikama and the Senegalese town of Bignona will continue.
The two Presidents said they wished that Guinea Bissau would add to the project and so take "the great road into its own territory."
SYNOPSIS: President Jawara of Gambia arrived in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, to begin a three day working visit on Tuesday. He was met at Dakar airport by President Leopold Sedar Senghor of Senegal.
President Jawara will hold talks with President Senghor and other government ministers. President Jawara is being accompanied on his tour by his Foreign Minister, Alieu N'Jie and also his Minister for Agriculture and natural Resources, Mr. Cessay. The two Presidents released an official joint communique saying that encouraging progress had been made in the fields of economics, technology and cultural cooperation.
A new telecommunications network has been installed between Gambia and Senegal and a road is being built between Brikama in Gambia and Bignona in Senegal.
