- Story Text: Cuba's famed antique cars roared through Havana as the IX annual Antique Automobile Rally kicked off on Sunday (August 18), with retired Formula One driver David Coulthard participating.
More than 60 antique cars and 15 classic motorcycles took part in the 70 kilometre (43.5 miles) rally that rips through various parts of Havana, including the tourist-favourite neighbourhoods of Central Havana and Old Havana.
Coulthard, who drove for Formula One from 1994 to 2008, praised Cuba for its love of cars.
"I think that this is very exciting to see what the local Cuban motor enthusiasts are able to put on. There are a lot of fantastic looking cars and this is a celebration not only of everyone's shared passion for motorsports and cars in general but I think it has that very laid back Cuban style," the former racer said.
This year's rally will rank the top five winners in the antique cars segment and the top three in the classic motorcycles, with the first place winner garnering the Castrol Cup. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
