More than one thousand supporters of South Africa's Conservative Party held a rally in Pretoria on August 30 to protest against the government's apartheid reform measures. The right-wing group, the most vocal of the country's apartheid supporters, is against power-sharing and sees the reform process as a major step towards relinquishing power to the country's black majority. Conservative leader Dr Andries Treurnicht urged his supporters to stand together in their opposition to reform. He said the ranks of the country's conservative organisations were growing daily as more and more South Africans became disillusioned with the steps taken by the Pretoria government.
