- Story Text: In Lebanon, Palestine Liberation Organisation Chairman, Yasser Arafat, has strongly attack American policy of Palestine and Lebanon, and said it was seeking a new Camp David agreement on Lebanon. Mr. Arafat was speaking at a rally on Thursday night (27 September) to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of East Germany (G.D.R.).
SYNOPSIS; Cheering crowds greeted MR. Arafat as he arrived at Beirut's Arab University to attend the rally. The anniversary falls on October the seventh and celebrations are being held throughout the world to commemorate East Germany's independence. The Chairman of the Palestine-G.D.R. Friendship Society, Kurt Kurijo, presented Yasser Arafat with a picture and a flag to mark the occasion.
East Germany has given considerable material aid to the Palestinians and has maintained close ties with their organisation and cause. But the Palestinians are not the only people to have benefited from East German aid African liberation movements, Mozambique, Angola and Ethiopia have also received considerable support.
Mr. Arafat took the opportunity to address the crowd and launched a bitter attack on American policy. He accused the United States of seeking to betray the Palestinian cause by preparing a new Camp David agreement on Lebanon. But Yasser Arafat said the Palestinian gun will decide the future of this area and will surmount what he called the manoeuvres of the United States and its subversive plots.
