Thousands of Filipinos loyal to ousted President Ferdinand Marcos gathered for a rally at Luneta Park in Manila on April 13 as part of their drive against the newly-installed government of Corazon Aquino.Waving Philippine flags and large photographs of Marcos, they demanded that the former leader be allowed to return from Hawaii where he fled after a military revolt ended his 20-year-rule last February. The rally proclaimed Marcos' running mate in the February elections, Arturo Tolentino, 75, vice president.Tolentino told the rally that the "people power" uprising and President Marcos' departure to exile in the United States amounted to political robbery. He proclaimed Marcos the real winner of the February 7 poll and said Marcos loyalists would never recognize the Aquino government. The police estimated the crowd at 10,000.In a separate show of support for former President Marcos, his supporters called a rebel session of parliament in Manila on April 14 to protest Mrs.Aquino's decision last month to abolish the National Assembly and set up a revolutionary government. The session was held in the Asian Institute of Tourism, not far from the parliamentary buildings, which have been locked on Mrs.Aquino's orders.A total of 91 pro-Marcos assemblymen gathered in the conference hall where former Minister Nicanor Yniguez announced the beginning of Parliament and declared the meeting open.
