- Story Text: The Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) has put on a show of
defiance to mark the first anniversary of the start of the
bloody conflict in the Yugoslav province.
Dozens of soldiers, including members of the KLA
special unit, along with children from the local school
attended a rally on Saturday (November 29) in Lausa, once a
KLA stronghold before the Serbs virtually destroyed the town.
They laid wreaths at the grave of an ethnic Albanian
schoolteacher - Halit Geci - who was killed there one year
ago.
At the teacher's funeral, the separatist guerrillas of the
KLA appeared in public for the first time.
The teacher's son said he felt obliged to join the KLA
after his father died to fight for his country's independence.
Saturday also marked national flag day, which celebrates
Albanian independence.
