- Story Text: On the eve June 9 of the 24-hour strike by a 1 1/2M French civil servants, Renault car workers demanding higher pay and a shorter working week struck at the works in a Paris suburb and in a protest rally marched with banners to the local town hall to hand in their petition of claims.
The strike wave also swept steel workers at Creil near the capital and at the government arsenal and shipyards town of Lorient. The June 10 strike followed months of failure in wage negotiations with the Government. The main complaint: loss of purchasing power of the franc.
The strikers included airline staff, customs, busmen, dustmen, postman, teachers and some hospital staff.
Railwaymen were likely to join the strike.
