- Story Text: Prime Minister Kassem of Iraq attended the opening of the second annual congress of the Iraqi League for the Defence of Woman's Rights in Baghdad Mar.8. The opening was also marked by a procession of delegates with flags reviewed by Colonel Fadhel Al-Mahdawi, President of the 'People's Court.'
The Prime Minister referred to the changes in Iraq since he opened the first annual congress of women last year. Women no longer were fighting for their rights in the new Republic and he welcomed a motion to change the name of the League: henceforward to be called the Iraqi Women's League.
He said the country was working hard to raise its living standards and warned the League to be on its guard against 'reactionary elements' making any attempts to impede national progress.
Crowds danced and sang in the streets to welcome the League's parade through the city.
