- Story Text: The 1960 International Swedish Automobile Rally run by the Swedish Royal Automobile Club (KAK) started from Stockholm June 15 with British and French drivers among the competitors. The Rally - the eleventh - is to the 'Midnight Sun' at Oestersund, south of the Arctic Circle. First prize: the Midnight Sun Trophy and 3000 kronor. The route is through Joenkeeping, Gaevle, Solleftea, Vihelmina and Oestersund. Results will be made known June 18. Ten classes of automobile range from 850 cc to over 1300 cc.
Ford Motor Co. Ltd. entered English drivers Victor Preston and Sam Croft-Pearson (Ford Anglia) in class VI for improved series production touring cars up to 1,000 cc (Car 31). The French girls Vanson and Wagner (Citroen ID 19) are in class V for normal series production touring cars above 1600 cc (car 17). In the same class: Nils Erik Carlsson and Harry Hagman (Citroen ID 19) of Sweden; Peter Riley and Rupert Jones (Wolsely 6/99) of England; Rene Trautmann and J.C. Ogier (Citroen ID 19) of France. In class VI starting are Pat Moss and Ann Wisdom (Austin A 40) of England.
165 competitors started in the 1,553-mile rally. Nils Erik Carlsson was last year's winner. Walter Shock, German winner of the Monte Carlo Rally and present leader in the European championship, was unable to start in his Mercedes because of illness.
