- Story Text: Leaders of the Arab Socialist Union (ASU) -- Egypt's only political party -- attended a feminist rally held in Cairo on Tuesday (13 June) do discuss ways of improving the efficiency of the feminist organisation in the country and to define the role of women in Egypt's development.
The rally, held at the ASU's central committee headquarters, was attended by the Minister of Social Affairs, Dr. Aisha Rateeb, the First Security of the central committee, Dr. Mohamed Hafez Ghanem, and the Minister of Health, Dr. Mahmoud Mahfooz.
In a speech he made at the rally, Dr. Ghanem called on young Egyptians who had finished school and were not serving in the armed forces to help develop the country by working in the fields of teaching, forestry, birth control, medicine industry.
The women were represented by Mrs. Karima El Saied, who is responsible for feminist activity within the ASU.
