  • Story Text: Palestinians have rallied in the Gaza Strip towns of Gaza City and Rafah, protesting against land confiscation on the eve of Land Day.

    Scuffles broke out between Israeli soldiers and Palestinians on Sunday (March 29) as demonstrators attempted to plant a tree on land in the Gaza Strip which had been confiscated by Israel at an earlier date.

    About 20 Palestinians were involved in the scuffles.

    Palestinian police were on hand to try to defuse the situation.

    The Israeli soldiers dispersed the protestors with tear gas.

    A demonstration also took place in Gaza City where Palestinians marched and chanted slogans against Israeli land confiscation and occupation.

    The demonstrations were a prelude to Monday's land day (March 30) which commemorates the killing of six Palestinians by Israeli forces at a demonstration against land confiscation in the Israeli Arab town of Sakhnin, in the Galilee, in 1976.
