- Story Text: Around three hundred Jordanian students have burnt
Israeli flags during an anti-Israel rally on the university
campus in Amman to protest Israeli troops storming Jerusalem's
al-Aqsa mosque compound on Sunday.
Students of the University of Jordan protested on
Monday (July 30) against the Israeli storming of the al-Aqsa
mosque on Sunday (July 31) and the treatment of Palestinians
in Jerusalem.
The students, who gathered inside the main gate of the
university campus, were chanting anti-Israel slogans and were
calling for revenge on the Israeli Prime Minister Ariel
Sharon, whom they described as a slaughterer.
"Oh Sharon be patient..we will dig you a grave," angry
students chanted.
Protesters also asked the Jordanian government to close
the Israeli Embassy in Amman.
"No No for Zionist embassy in the Jordanian land," the
students chanted.
The students carried Islamic flags and banners supporting
the Palestinian uprising.
Protesters burnt two Israeli flags and an effigy
representing the Israeli settlements.
In a provocative sign to anti-riots police, protesters
broke the main gate of the University but no serious clashes
or injuries were reported.
