- Story Text: In Saigon on Tuesday (2 January), hundreds of Roman catholic students gathered in a Cholon high school in a rally to support moves for an end to the Indochina war.
The demonstration was being held while American B52 bombers were resuming their raids above the 20th paralled following a 36-hour New Year halt.
Catholic priests, nuns and social workers attended the rally, along with President Hguyen Van Thieu's personal representatives, Senate Chairman Nguyon Van Huyen and Education Minister Ngo Khac Tinh. Presiding over religious ceremonies at the rally was Archbishop Nguyen Van Binb.
The main them of the rally supported President Thieu's stand against a ceasefire settlement not satisfactory to the Saigon Government.
After religious ceremonies, the students sang hymns and prayed for peace before dispersing peacefully.
