Story Text: Five people died and three were injured on Sunday (October 1) when a flight of stairs collapsed at the construction site of a French hypermarket outside Moscow, Russia's Emergencies Ministry said.
The store is being built by the privately owned French retailer Auchan in Lyubertsy, a suburb southeast of Moscow. The firm could not be reached for comment.
Auchan and other megastore operators have been doing a brisk business in Russia's capital, taking advantage of an upsurge in consumerism driven by high oil revenues.
Auchan has nine stores in and around Moscow.
