- Story Text: Belgium's King Albert II meets emergency staff at the site of the collapsed building in Liege after a 13-year-old girl is rescued from the rubble.
Belgian King Albert II met on Wednesday afternoon (January 27) with emergency workers in Liege after a building collapsed in the city centre, wounding at least 20.
A five-story apartment block collapsed shortly after 7 a.m. (0600 GMT) following an explosion five hours earlier.
Liege mayor Willy Demeyer said 20 people had been wounded with two seriously hurt.
Shortly after midday, a 13-year-old girl was rescued, the head of Liege firefighters service Jean-Marc Gilissen told the Belgium news agency Belga.
King Albert II arrived from Brussels to meet emergency workers at the site and thank them for their efforts.
The explosion damaged a number of nearby buildings, including cafes. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
