- Story Text: More bodies are recovered after the collapse of a suspension bridge in eastern Indonesia, bringing the death toll to 18, officials say.
Search and rescue teams found more bodies in Indonesia's Mahakam river on Tuesday (November 29) bringing the death toll to 18, officials said.
The suspension bridge in east Kalimantan province, the longest in Indonesia's part of Borneo island, collapsed on Saturday (November 26) around dusk.
The rescue teams were starting dives to recover bodies. Dozens of people were still missing.
"Today the recovery crew will dive into the river and we have also prepared several tugboats for this operation," said Daryatno, the co-ordinator.
Rescue officials said seven people who were injured are still being treated in hospital.
Authorities provided two emergency ferries to help residents to cross the river.
The 720-metre (787 yards) bridge connected Tenggarong city to Tenggarong Seberang town.
Residents commuting between the two said the ferries were of great help.
