- Story Text: Two babies were among eight people pulled from the rubble of an apartment block after it collapsed in the Pakistani city of Karachi on Sunday (February 5).
A baby and a school-aged girl died in the accident.
The sixth floor of the block was being built on top of the existing five floors. It took all the floors with it when it collapsed.
The new floor was apparently being illegally built in an area of Karachi renowned for illegal building work.
Local rules permit the construction of buildings as high as three storeys but corrupt officials have reportedly turned a blind eye to the illegal building work in the city.
Five families were living in the building at the time of the accident.
One of the children injured is in a serious condition.
