- Story Text: Six storey Building collapses on Thai firemen in
Bangkok.
A smouldering six-storey building in the Thai
capital Bangkok collapsed on Sunday (January 9) on to
emergency workers who were trying to put out a fire,
according to a witness who filmed the incident.
As firemen hosing the building seemed to have
controlled the blaze, the upper floors started to slide
forward sending an avalanche of concrete and steel crashing
through lower levels and onto cars parked below.
About a dozen firemen and other emergency services
staff were inside the central Bangkok car parts showroom
and warehouse when it collapsed, emergency volunteer
Aphisit Trakanpaitoon told Reuters.
Officials now say up to ten peoplecoul still be trapped
under the rubble.
Aphisit said firemen did not know the cause of the fire.
Another volunteer told a radio station firefighters had
been in contact with a colleague in the remains of the
building.
