- Story Text: Delegates to the Sixth International Conference on Water Pollution Research, being held in and around Jerusalem, were shown a new water purification system on Tuesday (20 June). The system, which was originally pioneered in the United States by Professor William Oswald, has been developed and improved in Israel by Dr. Gidalyah Shelev.....Senior Researcher at the Hebrew University Environmental Health Laboratory and the Israeli Institute of Technology. It introduces phone-synthesis as a means of purifying waste water.
The Conference President, Dr. Shuval, took officials and delegates on a tour of the water-purification plant at Ein Karem, just outside Jerusalem, where the new system is employed. The process is not as costly as conventional systems, and provides a form of processed algae which can be used or sold as animal fodder. More than an thousand delegates are representing 37 countries at the conference.
