- Story Text: The World Health Organisation is becoming increasingly concerned about water pollution - particularly as it affects holiday-makers at seaside resorts.
In July of this year, the Organisation claimed that one in five of the 25-million northern tourists who holiday in the south of Europe contact some form of ??? gastro-intestinal infection.
The Organisation called for bacteriological examinations to be carried out at seaside resorts throughout the bathing season.
In the past, isolating the bacteria that contaminated sea waters had been lengthy and difficult. Now, Professor Y. Kott, an assistant Professor at Technicon's Environmental engineering Laboratories, has developed a new way of checking water pollution. This method, using filters gives reliable and accurate results in less than a quarter of the time taken by the present fermentation processes.
The next stage in professor Kott's project is to test his findings on a national basis.
