- Story Text: A new venue in Dubai hosted an extreme sports event during the weekend, drawing athletes from several countries.
Athletes from the UAE as well as from Austria, Britain and Romania descended upon the city to take part in activities such as flyboarding, ziplining and BXM stunts.
The appetite for such sports is growing in the Emirates, with many top performers choosing Dubai to act out their daring thrills.
And it's not just athletes that get to perform - visitors could also take part in various events.
"We have tried to find a collection of different sort of events that people would be interested in and respond to. So 'Xtreme Acts' is something that people of Dubai very much enjoy and they highly participate," said Eleni Paraskevopoulou, the marketing manager of venue Riverland.
Visitors had an opportunity to sign up for bungee jumping, wall climbing and zip lining over a one-kilometre artificial river.
Snowboarder and free-jumper from Austria, Daniel Moesl, was among the participants. He said the audience in Dubai was hard to please.
"The audience in the Emirates, especially in Dubai (are) a bit different. You have to do really crazy stuff that they are coming to (see) and make really nice noises and going with the flow. But when you're doing crazy stuff they will hype you up and they will love what you are doing," he said.
Local flyboarder Karim El Gendy performed some daring water stunts. He said he has several more events lined up for the city.
"We've found huge interest here in the Emirates especially in Dubai. We perform in clubs and at events and next month we have Dubai International Board Show; we have 16 morning and night shows. The night shows are something new here in the Emirates. We started it almost two years ago, and we found a huge interest in it."
Other athletes performed impressive BMX stunts and parkour, which has been growing in popularity the Middle East. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
