  • Story Text: Lebanese care-taking Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri met with Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan in the Turkish capital Ankara on Friday (January 14) in the wake of the collapse of Lebanon's unity government.
    The Iranian-backed Hezbollah militant group and its allies threw Lebanon into chaos by resigning from Hariri's 14 month old unity government on Wednesday (January 12) and causing it to collapse.
    President Michel Suleiman has asked Hariri to stay on as caretaker prime minister while he begins the process of putting a new administration together.
    Lebanese leaders agreed on Thursday (January 13) to start talks next week on rebuilding a government.
    Erdogan's Islamic-rooted government is keen on trying to contribute to peace in the Middle East while developing closer ties with Arab states.
    Hariri arrived in Turkey on Thursday after talks in Paris with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
