- Story Text: The prime minister of Turkey, Tayyip Erdogan, cancelled an official visit to Chile Monday (May 31) and returned to his country following the Israeli attack of a Gaza-bound aid flotilla which has set off a diplomatic storm around the globe.
Erdogan arrived to Chile on Sunday after suspending a trip to Argentina but left the Chilean capital on Monday amid fervor surrounding the attack.
The Chilean Ministry General Secretariat of Government, Ena von Baer, said the Chilean government is always against violence as the Turkish PM left the country.
"The [Turkish] Prime Minister has returned to his country. And here, as a government, we always condemn the use of violence, especially in this case. We are sorry for the loss of human life."
The attack has drawn Israeli criticism from friends and foes alike and Turkey, a regional ally, has called off planned joint military exercises.
Turkey has also summoned Israel's ambassador and said it would recall its own. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
