- Story Text: Egypt and Turkey would continue to push for a solution in Syria said President Mohamed Mursi on Sunday (September 30) as he held meetings with Turkish leaders in Ankara.
The two countries are set to hold high level strategic talks in November looking to boost bilateral ties.
Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said the meeting later in the year would have strong consequences in Egypt-Turkey relations.
"A high level strategic council meeting will take place in Cairo. We have confirmed the date of the meeting with my brother Mursi during our bilateral talks. I fully believe that the council meeting, which will be held in early November, with a delegation of 13 officials will result in important consequences," said Erdogan at a news conference, after meeting with Mursi on Sunday.
The crisis in neighbouring Syria has thrust Turkey to the forefront of international diplomacy, with Washington seeing it as the key player in supporting the Syrian opposition and planning for the era after President Bashar al-Assad.
Egypt's Mursi echoed Erdogan's sentiments, saying Syria would be on top of the agenda.
"We are on the same page with Turkey regarding all problems concerning Syria. We also share the same values regarding the Palestinian problem. We agree on everything that should be done to support Palestinian people and to help them to get their freedom and independence."
Mursi was in Turkey to attend a congress of Erdogan's Justice and Development (AK) Party. Leaders including Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev and Masoud Barzani, president of Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region, were also among the guests.
Turkey has taken in hundreds of thousands of refugees, fleeing the conflict in neighbouring Syria, and is playing host to a number of Syrian opposition figures.
In April, Turkey said at least five people, including two Turkish officials, were wounded when cross-border gunfire hit a Syrian refugee camp in Kilis, further west along the frontier.
Turkey beefed up its troops and air defences along its 900 kilometre (560 mile) border after Syria shot down a Turkish reconnaissance jet in June. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
