- Story Text: Turkish prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan arrives in
Kabul for talks with Afghan president Hamid Karzai.
Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan arrived on
Wednesday (April 20, 2005) to the Afghan capital Kabul for
a two day visit.
Whilst there Erdogan inspected Turkish troops serving
as NATO-lead peacekeepers under NATO command.
"I strongly believe that with the upcoming parliamentary
election Afghanistan has taken another step towards
democracy and I believe it will have positive result. We
discussed with the President several important issue, the
reconstruction project involving education, reconstruction
of school roads and health sectors", said turkish prime
minister Erdogan at a joint press conference with Afghan
President Hamid Karzai.
During the press conference Karzai praised Turkey for
it's continued support.
"Turkey is the best friend of Afghans, the government of
turkey helped Afghan people during soviet Russia invasion
and also from the start of interim and transitional
government in Afghanistan, turkey was the first country
that helped the afghan people", Said Karzai.
Erdogan is due to leave on Friday (April 22).
