Azerbaijan is ready to make "a considerable contribution towards Europe's energy safety," President Ilham Aliyev told reporters in Berlin on Thursday (February 4) during a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
During a joint news conference with Merkel ahead of their talks, the Azeri president said "we will also exchange our views on Nabucco," referring to the European gas pipeline project.
"We already discussed it. Let me say that we support this project. I would say that in recent times, this project has developed a positive dynamic, the intensification of the realisation of this process," Aliyev said.
Merkel, who offered Germany's "technical know-how" to expand energy relations with natural gas-rich Azerbaijan, spoke of a "win-win situation."
"On the one hand, we have the technical know-how which is needed to build a modern energy system. On the other hand, Azerbaijan is rich of natural gas and that's why the Nabucco pipeline, the Nabucco project is of outstanding importance to us and this is exactly what we will discuss today," Merkel said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
