- Story Text: Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus continued on Friday (June 9) his two-day official visit to oil-rich Azerbaijan.
Adamkus arrived in Baku on Thursday (June 8) and held official talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The main focus of the two-day visit is bilateral trade, including energy supplies as well as relations between Azerbaijan, the European Union and NATO, with emphasis on the prospects of Euro-Atlantic integration and regional cooperation of Azerbaijan.
Adamkus highlighted a rapidly increasing interest of Lithuanian business sector in investment opportunities in Azerbaijan.
During their meeting, Aliyev promised that Azerbaijan would open soon an embassy in Vilnius that would create conditions for developing closer and stronger relations between the two countries. Adamkus indicated that Lithuania was also planning to launch a diplomatic mission in Baku in the near future.
After the meeting of the Lithuanian-Azerbaijani delegations, the presidents of the two states signed a joint declaration on plans for developing bilateral relations and establishing closer political and economic cooperation.
On Friday (June 9) Adamkus and Aliyev took part in the first Azerbaijan-Lithuanian business forum in Baku. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
