- Story Text: A midnight to dawn curfew was imposed on the Azeri capital of Baku on Friday night (October 8) as part of the state of emergency declared by the president last week.
Armed police set up road blocks and checked cars throughout Baku and soldiers with armoured personnel carriers patrolled the streets. But there were no incidents. The city was calm.
On Thursday (October 6) the prime minister Suret Huseinov was sacked after President Haydar Aliyev accused him of taking part in a coup attempt in the nothwestern city of Gence.
