  • Story Text: The ex-"Friend" David Schwimmer, has partnered with British comedian Simon Pegg for his directorial debut "Run, Fat Boy, Run" which premiered in Los Angeles, California on Monday (March 24).
    "I was reading a lot of scripts the last year of the TV show," Schwimmer told Reuters.
    "About four years ago for about six months. This was the first one that I just absolutely fell in love with. I just laughed out loud funny I thought it was really moving surprisingly moving. So I dont know as soon as I put it down I was like 'this is it'. It took about a year and half I was pitching actors, American actors, it was originally set in New York actually around the New York marathon. Suddenly it was optioned by a British company and I found myself directing a British comedy it wasn't like I set out to 'the first film is going to be a British comedy' it wasn't that at all it just sort of happened that way. Luckily I knew Simon really well we were actually working together at the time and I just gave him the script and I said 'you are great for this' do you want to act in it and do the re-write?' Because he is a great writer too and that was it. "
    The film is directed by Schwimmer, best known for playing 'Ross' on the hit show "Friends", and co-written by Simon Pegg and Michael Ian Black. Pegg also stars in the film alongside Hank Azaria and Thandie Newton.
    "Yeah he directed a dozen episodes of 'Friends"," Pegg said on the arrival line about Schwimmer. "I think and other stuff. He is a really good presence on set as a director he knows his stuff. Yeah he is fantastic because he puts you at ease as an actor and he knows his stuff. He doesn't care. David knows and has a very realistic outlook on what that show means to him and what it has done for him and he is nothing but grateful. You know he knows that people will see him as 'Ross' for a long time but you know he is a realist he is not trying to be anything else. That show put him on the map it was a brilliant show."
    The film revolves around Dennis played by Pegg who leaves his pregnant fiancée played by Newton at the altar. He got cold feet and ran for the hills and he's been going in circles ever since.
    "It's so not a message movie," Newton said wearing a fuchsia Matthew Williamson dress.
    "It's fun and it's huge blisters, fights, and craziness. Simon in the tinniest shorts you have ever seen, transvestites, it's got everything. It's got Hank Azaria with his glorious body and so much baby powder that he puts everywhere. That man must get through a lot of baby powder in a year."
    When he discovers she has hooked up with high-flying-go-getter played by Hank Azaria, he realizes it's now or never and enters a marathon to show his love.
    "Yeah Hank was amazing in that scene that you are talking about the locker room scene," Schwimmer said on the arrival line. "One of my favorite scenes in the movie, yeah Simon is sitting on a bench and eye level to Hank junior. Hank in just one take without telling Simon, I knew it was going to happen, Hank said you know just keep rolling I am going to surprise Simon, he just dropped his towel. Everything was there for Simon's enjoyment and that reaction, simon's reaction to Hank and Hank junior is what's in the movie and it's just gold."
    "Run, Fat Boy, Run" will be released in the United States nationwide on March 28.
