- Story Text: After attending dazzling premieres in London and Berlin, the 'Sex and the City' stars finally step onto the 'pink' carpet in their home town of New York.
'Sex and the City' fans in New York were treated to the glamour and glitz of a big New York City premiere of the highly anticipated film.
The movie 'Sex and the City' made its way back to the city that was always its hidden star, premiering at New York City's famed Radio City Music Hall.
The film takes off from where the TV series left off. Writer Carrie's relationship with a financier known as Big, the love lives, and fashion choices, of her friends -- publicist Samantha, curator Charlotte and lawyer Miranda has developed a strong global fan base over six seasons.
For actress Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays the writer Carrie Bradshaw in the movie, it was a special night.
"It's the most meaningful stop on this amazing journey and to see everybody on the streets even though it was going to rain, and it has rained, and they are still there and to see the cast in all their glory. Especially Michael Patrick King who is our fearless leader, it's just been incredible," Parker said.
She said the credit for the success went to writer Michael Patrick King.
"Well I think the writing has changed. I think we are just the lucky recipients of those words and any number of people could have had these jobs and we were just the lucky four that got them and so, it's really the writing," Parker added.
Actress Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte, said the fans moved her as they stood in the rain outside Radio City Music Hall.
"It's fantastic to come home. We always knew in our heads this would be the final and most important, biggest stop. And it is, I mean rain and thunder, doesn't matter, our fans are there which is so sweet," Davis said.
Kim Cattrall, who plays the sexy Samantha, said she had not seen the film before the New York premiere.
"I am so thrilled, I did not see it in London, the movie. We went to all the premieres in London and Berlin but I decided to wait to wait to come home to New York to see it in Radio City Music Hall. I thought that would be a really fun romantic thing to do and I also promised my boyfriend,"
said Cattrall.
Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda, said the film was an honest portrayal of the lives of women in their 40s.
"It's been great, so exciting. I just feel that one of the really smart things about the way they did the film is they let it be four years later. They let us age, they let us be dealing with issues in the movie that women our age really do deal with," Nixon said.
Actor Chris Noth, who plays Sarah Jessica Parker's love interest Mr.
Big, said he was true to his city.
"There seems to be just a great excitement about it and we are very pleased about that. I saw it. I didn't go to the London premiere. I'm a New Yorker. I criticise some of the things but I'm a New Yorker, I'm a die hard New Yorker," said Noth.
Based on Candace Bushnell's autobiographical columns in The New York Observer newspaper, the TV series won eight Golden Globes and seven Emmys and made Manolo Blahnik shoes and the Cosmopolitan cocktail household names.
So do fans of Carrie and Mr. Big get to see them at the altar on the big screen? That is the question 'Sex and the City' fans' hope is answered when 'Sex' hits cities world wide. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
