- Story Text: Legendary director Michelangelo Antonioni attended the Los Angeles premiere of his film "Beyond the Clouds" on October 19.
The event, at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles, marked the beginning of the American Film Institute's International Film Festival.
The 83 year-old director was accompanied by his wife, Enrica.
She has acted as his spokesperson since a stroke in 1985 left him speechless and partly paralyzed.
Mrs. Antonioni has filmed a documentary on her husband's struggle to make of "Beyond the Clouds," an achievement she describes as "a miracle".
The documentary, titled "Making a Film is For Me Living" will also be screened at the festival. The couple have been married for 24 years.
"Beyond the Clouds" was co-directed by Wim Wenders and is based on Antonioni's 1983 book "Bowling Alley on the Tiber".
It has segments in French, English and Italian and stars Marcello Mastroiani, Jeanne Moreau, Irene Jacob, John Malkovich and Peter Weller.
Weller, who plays the part of a husband torn between his mistress and his wife, also attended the premiere. He said Antonioni's films are about fear of intimacy.
Other celebrity guests included Holly Hunter and actress friend Adriana Jardini. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
