And he got so excited and pumped that I kind of got pumped as well. He was really passionate about it. So that's really what was got me going." (SOUNDBBITE) (English) ACTOR GABRIEL MACHT SAYING: "Working with Kate was a lot of fun. She's, you know the movie's very serious. And it's on set it was very heavy, because you know it's cold and she's trying to figure out who's killing who, and who's after her. And the moment the director said "cut" she was making jokes and you know that just sort of brought the energy way up." (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR ALEX O'LOUGHLIN SAYING: "Kate, it was a delight working with Kate. She's a pro. She's very, very funny. She has, she is a family woman, you know. She's a mom and she's got a lovely family. She brought that energy to set, too. And that's, I mean the set is really an adult's playground, you know. And so it's not often that you have kids running around, and so that was really great." (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTRESS KATE BECKINSALE SAYING: "Yeah, I think it's really important. I think the crew really becomes a real family, especially if you're in fairly extreme circumstances. And everyone has got to keep a good humor. So, you know, it was really nice. We had great people. We had great actors and lovely crew. And everybody had a good sense of humor, so it really helps when it's minus five, you know."

- Story Text: British actress Kate Beckinsale wowed the crowd as she walked the red carpet at the Wednesday (September 9) night premiere of her new film "Whiteout."
Beckinsale, dressed in a deep blue strapless gown with shimmering gold fingernails, sparkled as she talked to reporters about why she wanted to make the film.
"It was really Joel Silver was so excited at the prospect about making a movie set in Antarctica, and being able to really make that look realistic," explained the 36-year-old thespian. "And he got so excited and pumped that I kind of got pumped as well. He was really passionate about it. So that really what was got me going."
In the movie, Beckinsale, playing U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko, tracks a killer in Antarctica as the sun is about to set on the frozen continent for six months.
Her character crosses paths with a United Nations operative, played by Gabriel Macht, who is also investigating the first ever murder in the ice-covered region.
Macht, a New Yorker, shared why he enjoyed spending time on the set with his London-born co-star.
"Working with Kate was a lot of fun," smiled Macht, 37. "She's, you know the movie's very serious. And it's on set it was very heavy, because you know it's cold and she's trying to figure out who's killing who, and who's after her. And the moment the director said 'cut' she was making jokes and you know that just sort of brought the energy way up."
Macht brought his wife, actress Jacinda Barrett, to screen the film with him.
Australian actor Alex O' Loughlin, 33, who plays a tough-talking pilot who spars with Beckinsale onscreen, also sung her praises.
"It was a delight working with Kate. She's a pro. She's very, very funny. She has, she is a family woman, you know. She's a mom and she's got a lovely family. She brought that energy to set, too. And that's, I mean the set is really an adult's playground, you know. And so it's not that often that you have kids running around, and so that was really great."
Actor Tom Skerritt also stars in the movie.
The film was shot in Canada during intensely cold temperatures.
Dealing with the chilly outdoor climates and very hot sound stages presented an ever-present challenge to both cast and crew.
Beckinsale said that she wanted to help everyone stay positive and upbeat on set.
"Yeah, I think it's really important," confided Beckinsale. "I think the crew really becomes a real family, especially if you're in fairly extreme circumstances. And everyone has got to keep a good humor. So, you know, it was really nice. We had great people. We had great actors and lovely crew. And everybody had a good sense of humor, so it really helps when it's minus five, you know."
"Whiteout" was directed by Dominic Sena (who also helmed "Swordfish") from a screenplay based on the graphic novel of the same name.
Hollywood heavyweight Joel Silver, along with Susan Downey, wife of actor Robert Downey, Jr., and David Gambino served as producers for "Whiteout."
