- Story Text: Angelina Jolie walked the red carpet on Monday (July 19) for the Los Angeles premiere of "Salt," her new action-packed thriller.
Hundreds of fans lined Hollywood Boulevard outside Grauman's Chinese Theater to catch a glimpse of the superstar, and she did not disappoint. Both Jolie and her partner, Brad Pitt, spent nearly 15 minutes walking down the avenue, greeting fans and signing autographs.
In the film, Jolie plays CIA officer, Evelyn Salt, whose loyalty is tested when a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy. The film is a stunt-filled adventure, putting Jolie at the helm of yet another action movie.
She said she does think about the fact that she's Hollywood's only mainstream, female action star.
"It's a little funny to me privately, when I'm home with my kids and I just feel like somebody's mom. It's kind of funny. But when I'm working, I feel very empowered and I love to do it," said Jolie.
"Salt" was reportedly first developed for Tom Cruise, but then re-written for a woman lead. Jolie said despite her numerous action films, like "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," she found "Salt" to be a little different.
"I've done a lot of action, but it had never been based in reality. And so it was such a big challenge that everybody was saying, 'could it even be pulled off?' Anytime somebody questions whether something can be pulled off, it's hard not to want to try."
And there's little doubt that she'll pull it off. Box office analysts expect the film to be a blockbusting money-maker when it hits theaters on July 23. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
