I liken it to being on a basketball team for five years. It was like showtime Lakers in the '80's when it is easy to throw a no-look pass because you know where your teammate is going to be. That was the beauty of Paul Rudd. He's the best actor I've ever worked with." - Story Text: If the comedy "I Love You, Man" is even half as fun as the film's Los Angeles premiere, then movie fans should be in for a real treat. Led by co-stars Paul Rudd and Jason Segel, Tuesday's (March 17, 2009) red carpet premiere at the Mann's Village Theater was all about goofing around and having a good time.
"I've worked with most of these people a few times," said Rudd, who plays a soon-to-be married groom, looking for a best man in the film. "John Hamburg, the director has been a friend of mine for many years. It was a very fun, very relaxed experience the entire thing. I have gotten kind of spoiled."
In "I Love You, Man," a comedy from Hamburg, of "Meet the Parents" and "Along Came Polly" fame, Rudd plays Peter Klaven a successful real estate agent, who after getting engaged to the girl of his dreams, Zooey (The Office's "Rashida Jones"), realizes he doesn't have a Best Man. Rudd's character sets out to rectify the situation, embarking on a series of "man-dates," before meeting up with Sydney Fife (Jason Segel). As the two bond, their friendship actually starts to impact his relationship with his future wife.
"It was a real pleasure," explained Jason Segel, on the set's chemistry. "I liken it to being on a basketball team for five years. It was like showtime Lakers in the '80's when it is easy to throw a no-look pass because you know where your teammate is going to be. That was the beauty of Paul Rudd. He's the best actor I've ever worked with."
Co-star Rashida Jones told Reuters Television the most difficult thing was not trying not to laugh on set.
"It was really easy with these guys," said Jones. "It was like hanging out with your friends and it just happened to have a camera there. So, hopefully it comes across on screen that we liked each other so much. It made it a lot easier."
