- Story Text: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie brought their fans to their feet and traffic to stop as the arrived for the Hollywood premiere of Brad's latest film, the Quentin Tarantino directed, "Inglourious Basterds."
Before hitting the red carpet, Hollywood's reigning "Golden couple" took time out to meet with their fans, who had gathered outside the famed Grauman's Chinese Theatre for Monday (August 10) night's premiere.
In the film, which has generated a good buzz ahead of its release, Pitt stars as World War II Lieutenant Aldo Raine, who organizes a group of Jewish American soldiers to perform swift, shocking acts of retribution. Later known to their enemy as "the basterds," Raine's squad joins a German actress and undercover agent on a mission to take down the leaders of the Third Reich.
Pitt credits Tarantino's strong script for setting the tone for the film.
"Well, I'm not sure that is how they acted back then, we kind of wung it," joked Pitt. "There was a really clear road map for the characters Quentin write. You do not have to do a whole lot of homework."
Tarantino adds that the film's casting, especially Pitt, is what puts "Inglourious Basterds" over the top.
"If you don't get the right actors, then all the work you did on the script is going to stay on the page. It might be entertaining, the audience members might like it well enough. But, I will know what it was on the screen was not what it was on the page. He (Brad Pitt) is definitely the right guy. The fact if I couldn't have got him, then I don't know, we might not have been here right now," Tarantino said.
