- Story Text: It's rare for the producer of a film to steal the limelight from the leading man - but that's exactly what happened at the premiere of 'The Time Traveler's Wife' in New York City on Wednesday (August 12). Then again, the producer was Hollywood heartthrob, Brad Pitt.
The actor took fans and waiting media by surprise when he showed up on the red carpet at the Ziegfeld Theater. A producer of the film, Pitt waved to fans and joked with the media, snapping pictures of photographers with his cell phone.
The Hollywood mega-star's appearance at one point seemed to overshadow lead actor Eric Bana, as he was doing his own round of media interviews along the red carpet.
If the Australian actor was worried, however, he certainly didn't show it. His co-star Rachel McAdams didn't seem to mind either. Perhaps the actress was too busy making sure her dress stayed in place. McAdams wore a revealing white Pucci number - held in place by what she admitted was a lot of tape.
"I have some tape, tape is helping out, definitely. Duct tape is holding me together," McAdams said.
Bana, who plays McAdams' time-traveling lover, isn't nearly as modest. The actor appears naked in scenes throughout the movie as he travels through time.
"I'm naked a couple of times, but never in front of her, I'm a gentleman. We kept that stuff, they kept me solo those days. They kept everyone well away, no-one wants to see that," Bana joked.
Director Robert Schwentke says Bana didn't need much convincing to strip.
"No, not at all. (laughs) I had to stop him all the time, he just wouldn't want to stop," Schwentke said.
Nudity aside, actor Ron Livingston, who also stars in the film, says the story is a real tear-jerker.
"It's kind of a little bit of a tear jerker at the end there. It's a love story, so it kind of gets you."
Also to stroll the red carpet were Hailey McCann and her sister Tatum. The two girls play Bana and McAdams' on-screen daughter, Alba.
The pint-sized Tatum told Reuters although her friends were impressed that she got to work alongside actors like Eric Bana, she insisted she's just a normal kid.
"Well at first they were like, oh my gosh, that's so cool, but we're just like normal people we go to school, so they kinda get used to it. It's awesome," Tatum said.
