- Story Text: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner were greeted by hundreds of screaming fans at the world-wide premiere of "Eclipse."
Some so-called "Twi-hards" waited in line for as long as five days to catch a glimpse of their favourite star.
The event unfolded on a black carpet in Downtown Los Angeles on Thursday (June 24) night.
The film is the third in the "Twilight" series.
The movies are based on books by author Stephenie Meyer.
Pattinson, who plays a vampire by the name of Edward Cullen in the franchise, talked about how the latest "Twilight" film differs from the first two movies.
"It's very different," said the 24-year-old actor. "It feels sort of bigger. It feels a little more adult, I think. Or maybe I am just seeing it through more adult eyes. But there's a lot of fighting and stuff. It's completely different-- it's not so intimate like the other two. But there is a kind consistency as well. So I hope people will like it."
Stewart, 20, shared her thoughts on being part of the "Twilight" phenomenon.
"I mean it's strange to-- I don't think about the pop culture aspect of it. I think about it just in terms of like-- I know how much, I need to love something so much to be able play it. And to know that so many people have the same feeling about it. I will never get this again. I mean, I don't want to like limit my career or whatever. But this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. So, I'm really excited."
Stewart plays a human being named Bella Swan in the motion pictures.
Lautner commented on how being a part of "Twilight" has impacted his acting career.
"It's amazing," said Lautner, 18. "It is. I mean, this franchise has opened up so many doors. And it's allowed us to choose projects that we're passionate about. And it's amazing."
Lautner portrays the werewolf Jacob Black in the films.
Peter Facinelli, who portrays the adoptive vampire father of Pattinson's character in the films, talked about what the role means to him,
"It feels great to be able to be a part of something like that. I mean, like I said, I'm a fan of the book. So to be able to be a part of that, in a way where I can actually have a say and be a part of creating that world, makes me feel really good," he said.
Facinelli is married to actress Jennie Garth.
Bryce Dallas Howard commented on how the "Twilight" books affected her.
"For me, it was because when I read the first book," smiled Howard, 29. "I literally, I literally felt like I was feeling in love. I mean, I have an incredible marriage. I've been with my husband for almost ten years, I love him so much. But like when I read 'Twilight' it rivalled, it rivalled my experience of falling in love with my husband. And that is what I think is so potent about these books.'' Howard is also the daughter of director Ron Howard.
The author of the "Twilight" series, Stephenie Meyer, shared her thoughts on what it means to have created the popular books that became the hit films.
"Well, there are nights like tonight where it feels really, really different," explained Meyer, 36. "And then I get to go home to my kids, and it feels really, really normal. So, you know, it's kind of up and down. Right? A lot of times I can just be normal. It's nice though, to feel like I can-- validation in my writing. LIke I can go write a book, and someone's going to care about it. That's a cool thing. I think every author wants that."
In "Eclipse," Bella is forced to choose between Edward and Jacob. The decision is wrenching for her in part because she knows her final decision may ignite a deadly struggle between vampire and werewolf.
