- Story Text: Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and Spanish actor Javier Bardem attend "Biutiful" premiere just hours after receiving a golden globe nomination.
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and Javier Bardem took a stroll down the red carpet Tuesday (December 14) evening to promote the premiere of their new film "Biutiful". The film received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Language Film Tuesday (December 14) morning.
Inarritu, who is best known for addressing the fragility of life through films such as "Babel" and "21 Grams", was enthusiastic about the recent nomination.
"I think that this is a film that took a lot of heart and it cost many years of work for me, it's been four years now that I've been working on it." said Inarritu.
"And I think that we are all happy because it means that the movie will have greater fame and more people will go see it."
"Biutiful" narrates the life of Uxbal, a single father living in Barcelona who's physical health and financial situation drastically deteriorate after he is told he has terminal cancer. Like Inarritu's previous films, the movie addresses the greater theme of death and the intermingled lives of individuals who unknowingly change each others destinies.
Javier Bardem, who plays Uxbal, is happy that he has had the opportunity to bring this particular character to life.
"It's important because of what it says, it's important because it's been a challenge for me, it's important on all levels. And being able to give this character life is already a success," said Bardem. "But, for me its been important bringing him to life."
Also walking down the red carpet were veteran celebrities Melanie Griffith, Andy Garcia and up and coming Mexican actress Ana de la Reguera.
