- Story Text: James Bond is back in action. Daniel Craig and Jeffrey Wright, the stars from the new movie "Quantum of Solace", steal the show at the film's New York premiere on Tuesday (November 11).
In the latest James Bond action thriller, Daniel Craig reprises his role as British spy Agent 007 to battle eco-terrorists across Europe and South America.
The films producers say "Quantum of Solace" is the sequel to the 2006 blockbuster "Casino Royale". But in this film, James Bond is not only fighting bad guys, he's also out to avenge the death of his lover.
Daniel Craig says his character is a bit more darker and grittier than in the last James Bond film.
"He's got some stuff to sort out. He fell in love in Casino Royale and he had his heart broken and he needs to find out who did that, and he needs to find some peace with himself, so he's just getting through some stuff," Craig says.
Mark Forster, who directed "The Kite Runner" and "Monster's Ball" presents a less cheeky Bond and takes the movie-goers deep inside Bond's soul.
"We took it somewhere else. We got a new director in, we got somebody with incredible vision who visually has done something very special with this movie. He's made something that is a little bit of a throwback to the early movies, but is an incredibly modern action-adventure movie," says Craig.
James Bond 007 was created by author Ian Fleming in 1953, and the James Bond films have become one of the most successful movie franchises on the planet.
Actor Jeffrey Wright, plays Felix Leiter, who is James Bond's American CIA counterpart. Wright says the reason for the enormous worldwide success of the James Bond movies is simple.
"The movies are big. It's action-adventure and all of the things that make for good popcorn movies, but at the same time there is an intelligence driving through them. They don't pander to the lowest common denomination, and in the character Bond at the center of them is Bond, what more can you say. It's forty years of exciting audiences," Wright says.
